Unlocking the Potential of Room-Temperature Sodium–Sulfur Batteries

Major: Chemistry (National Talent Program), School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering

Faculty Mentor: Erhuan Zhang

Guo Jiaxing has spent nearly two years investigating advanced cathode materials and catalytic mechanisms for next-generation sodium–sulfur batteries. He has published research in Advanced Functional Materials and Energy Material Advances, and has submitted an independent first-author paper to Advanced Materials.

Research Project

Rational Design of Dual-Atom Catalytic Cathodes for Sodium–Sulfur Batteries

The project introduces dual-atom catalysts into sulfur cathodes to address long-standing challenges, including poor conductivity and the shuttle effect. Through material synthesis, electrochemical characterization, and computational simulations, the work reveals atom-level catalytic mechanisms that may enable high-energy-density and long-cycle-life sodium–sulfur batteries.

Looking ahead, Guo plans to continue his doctoral studies at GIFT and further explore electrochemistry, energy storage materials, and catalytic mechanisms for sustainable energy technologies.
