Cultivation System

The program Sustainable Energy emphasizes the interplay between future energy technologies and societal development. Covering areas such as energy materials, energy systems, and energy management, the program establishes a multidisciplinary curriculum tailored to the future of energy.

The cultivation system is divided into five sections: Fundamental Courses, Humanities and Literacy Courses, Interdisciplinary Courses, Practical Courses and Individualized Courses.

I. Fundamental Courses are all compulsory courses, including:

- Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry foundation courses;

- Electricity, Computer, Mechanics, Energy Materials and other relevant courses.

II. Humanities and Literacy Courses are all compulsory courses, including:

- English courses;

- P.E. courses;

- Ideological and political courses;

- Literature, history and philosophy elective courses.

III. Interdisciplinary Courses include core courses and elective courses:

- Core interdisciplinary courses: 8 compulsory courses;

- Elective interdisciplinary courses: consists of four categories with a total of 12 courses. Students may choose 5–7 courses to form a personalize study plan.

IV. Practice Courses include a series of courses such as Introduction to Engineering, Innovative Research Practice and Energy Experiment.

The courses in this section are aimed at cultivating students' cross-disciplinary innovation ability. By setting up project-based practice contents covering macro and micro health parameters, combined with field research, these courses form an immersive system of cultivating students' problem awareness, innovation awareness and innovation skills, thus laying a solid foundation for their scientific research.

V. Individualized Courses count for a total of 6 credits in any course offered by SJTU.
