Muming Poo, Scientific Director of CAS Center for Excellence in Brain Science and Intelligence Technology, delivers keynote speech at the 17th GIFT Distinguished Lecture Series
On October 24, 2025, Mu-ming Poo, Scientific Director of the Center for Excellence in Brain Science and Intelligence Technology at the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), delivered a keynote speech titled "Brain Science and Brain-Inspired AI". The event was attended by Hong'en Liao, Dean of the SJTU School of Biomedical Engineering; Jun Ni, Dean of GIFT; Tianshu Ge, Chairperson of GIFT Council; Sun Jin, Executive Dean of GIFT and SJTU faculty and students. The event was hosted by Beibei Du, a doctoral student from the class of 2024.


Tianshu Ge extended a warm welcome and sincere gratitude to Academician Poo for his visit. She highlighted his international renown as a distinguished neurobiologist and his long-term dedication to cutting-edge research. His profound commitment to advancing China's neuroscience research is highly recognized worldwide.

In his lecture, Academician Poo provided an in-depth overview of the history and significant advancements in brain science research, emphasizing their impact on the development of artificial intelligence (AI) technology. He also shared insights into potential collaborations between AI and neuroscience. Additionally, he urged students to focus on emerging scientific frontiers, strengthen their learning capabilities, and contribute to national innovation and progress.

During the Q&A session, faculty members and students conducted in-depth discussions with Academician Poo on topics including memory storage mechanisms, large language models, and emerging trends in brain-inspired AI.


At the end of the event, Dean Jun Ni awarded Academician Poo a certificate of appreciation and a commemorative gift.
The 17th GIFT Distinguished Lecture Series inspired innovative thinking among faculty and students, broadened their academic horizons, and motivated them to contribute to the high-quality development of the health sciences.
