Published at:2026-10-09

On September 24, twelve international students gathered in Meeting Room 202 of the Yue-kong Pao Library for a townhall meeting. The meeting provided essential guidance to help new students better adapt to university life and enhanced the faculty's understanding of the 2026 international freshmen.

Dean Jun Ni welcomed the international students. He outlined GIFT's vision to build a platform that transcends geographic background and cultural differences and contributes to global development. He stated that, with a focus on “Health of the Planet” and “Health of People”, GIFT aimed to address major global challenges such as climate change and improve quality of life. He encouraged international students to gain both academic knowledge and cultural insight, and grow into pioneers who drive local development. He also introduced the “Five 100% Commitment” which ensure mentorship, scholarships, research and internships, leadership development, and international exchanges.

In the free discussion session, international freshmen introduced themselves, shared their motivations, and expressed their expectations for university life. Many students cited all-English instruction, the interdisciplinary curriculum, top-tier faculty, advanced laboratory facilities and abundant internship opportunities as their key reasons for applying. They noted that they were filled with anticipation for university life, including study and research opportunities, learning Chinese culture, making international friends and solving real problems through practice.

Haibo Han, Deputy Chairman of the GIFT Council, encouraged the international students to actively participate in activities such as company visits and cultural exchanges to deepen their understanding of the college.

In his closing remarks, Associate Dean Hua Bao encouraged the students to build solid foundations, broaden their horizons in a cross-cultural environment, and build bridges to connect different cultures.

The meeting was attended by Jun Ni (GIFT Dean), Haibo Han (Deputy Chairman of the GIFT Council), and Hua Bao (Associate Dean), as well as staff members from the Undergraduate Academic Affairs Office, Student Affairs Office, and International Affairs Office. It provided new students with the useful information and networks they need for their upcoming university life. With an interdisciplinary cultivation system and dedicated mentoring, the 2026 international students are ready to embark on their academic journey with confidence.
