Abstract: Electric vehicles are booming. A large group of countries/regions have set electrification mandates on EVs or on phasing out of ICE vehicles. A major obstacle to wider adoption of EVs is the lack of a ubiquitous charging infrastructure. Modular ultra-fast charging technologies (wired or wireless) and structured microgrids can play an important role in speeding up the process. Modularity will enhance the required reliability and availability forcharging while reducing the cost for production and ownership of EVs. Microgrids can integrated renewable energy into the ubiquitous charging infrastructure and provide the peak charging capability while enhancing grid operation.eMobility (electronic mobility) will compliment the power train to IT technologies and connected infrastructure. The newly founded IEEE Transportation Electrification Council is facilitating the transition and spearheading collaborations with 18 IEEE/TAB societies and 5 partners.
