Dr. Gerald Yin, AMEC's Chairman and CEO, delivers keynote speech at the 15th GIFT Distinguished Lecture
On September 20, 2025, Dr. Gerald Yin, Founder, Chairman and CEO of Advanced Micro-Fabrication Equipment Inc. (AMEC), visited the Global Institute of Future Technology, SJTU to deliver an in-depth keynote speech titled “The trend of Micro - Fabrication Equipment and the Third Industry Revolution”.

The lecture was attended by Yi He, Vice President of AMEC Group; Lili Duan, Associate Director for Learning and Development; Guang Ning, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, President of Ruijin Hospital affiliated with the School of Medicine of SJTU, Honorary Dean of GIFT; Jun Ni, Dean of GIFT; Tianshu Ge, chairperson of GIFT Council; Jin Sun, Executive Dean, other members of institute leadership and more than 300 faculty, staff and students. The lecture was hosted by Siyu Yao, an undergraduate student from the class of 2024.
The event began with a video review of previous GIFT Distinguished Lecture Series, highlighting its role in setting exemplary models of academic and entrepreneur leaders, fostering interdisciplinary engagement, and encouraging intellectual exploration.

Dean Ni Jun welcomed Dr. Gerald Yin and expressed warm appreciation for his visit. He outlined Dr. Gerald Yin's pivotal role as a world-renowned inventor and tech innovator of plasma etching technology. Under Dr. Gerald Yin’s leadership, AMEC has become the largest high-end semiconductor equipment maker in China and a rising star in the sector globally.

In his speech, Dr. Gerald Yin talked about the development history, strategic importance, technological progress and future prospects of semiconductor micro-fabrication. Drawing examples from history of the three industrial revolutions, he also hypothesized a forthcoming era of “digital bioengineering”, featuring the integration of electronics with biological research. His lecture was rich in content and breadth, and offered the audience a deep understanding of the semiconductor industry.


During the Q&A session, faculty and students engaged with Dr. Gerald Yin on topics such as micro-fabrication technology, personal career experiences and professional advice for the young.


As the event concluded, Dean Jun Ni presented Dr. Gerald Yin with a certificate of appreciation and a commemorative gift.
The 15th GIFT Distinguished Lecture provided attendees with valuable insight into the semiconductor industry, inspiring faculty and students to strengthen fundamental research, anticipate trends of strategic emerging industries and future technologies, and contribute to China’s leadership in cutting-edge technology worldwide.
