The 6th Shanghai Y50 Forum for Innovation and Entrepreneurship was held at Shanghai Tower on May 10, under the theme "Thriving in Shanghai, Scoring New Heights — Youth and Cities Grow Together", focusing on the symbiosis and co-prosperity between youth development and urban innovation. Chen Tong, a member of the Shanghai Committee of the Communist Party of China and minister of the United Front Work Department of CPC Central Committee, delivered the opening speech. Wang Xingxing, the founder of Unitree Robotics, and other industry leaders delivered keynote speeches, and Huang Wei, host of China Business Network, hosted the whole day's agenda.
The forum thoroughly implement the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping's important instructions on his visit to Shanghai, and creates the first dual-track model of “Main Forum + Science and Innovation Carnival”, and creates the first dual-track mode of “Main Forum + Science and Innovation Carnival”, bringing together the world's top young entrepreneurs, scholars, industry think-tanks and representatives of investment institutions. Top 10 Innovative Entrepreneurship Cases of 2025 were announced on the spot, covering cutting-edge fields such as AIGC, biomedicine, cultural creativity, etc., highlighting Shanghai's ecological advantages as an international science and technology innovation hub.
After several rounds of selection by a professional jury, Mr. Wan Jiayu from the Global Institute of Future Technology of Shanghai Jiao Tong University was selected as one of the “Top 10 Innovative Entrepreneurship Cases of 2025” out of 247 candidate projects. During his postdoctoral research at Stanford University, he pioneered the ultra-thin solid electrolyte technology and overcame the challenge of balancing lithium battery safety and energy density. The Deep Energy Laboratory he established upon his return to China can achieve an exponential increase in the R&D efficiency of new energy devices and materials through second-level ultrafast synthesis and an intelligent R&D system driven by AI-based large models.
“Shanghai is building an innovation matrix for future industries, and its open and inclusive science and technology innovation ecosystem is inspiring,” Said Wan Jiayu for China Business Network and other mainstream media. “Take the Global Institute of Future Technology of Shanghai Jiao Tong University as an example. The university has jointly established industry-education integration laboratories with leading enterprises such as CATL through the direct industry-research cooperation model, simultaneously promoting technological breakthroughs and talent cultivation. Wan Jiayu is an associate professor at the Global Institute of Future Technology at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and the Executive Director of the Future Battery Research Center. His research focuses on energy storage materials and devices, as well as the application of artificial intelligence in this field. He has published over 90 papers in the international top journals, such as Science、Nature Nanotechnolog, Joule, and others, and has received numerous honors, including Clarivate`s Highly Cited Researcher and the Energy & Fuels Rising Star of the American Chemical Society.
