Curriculum

The program Sustainable Energy emphasizes the interplay between future energy technologies and societal development. Covering areas such as energy materials, energy systems, and energy management, the program establishes a multidisciplinary curriculum tailored to the future of energy.

The cultivation system is structured into five sections: Fundamental Courses, Humanities and Literacy Courses, Interdisciplinary Courses, Practical Courses, and Individualized Courses.

I. Fundamental Courses are all compulsory courses, including:

- Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry courses;

- Electricity, Computer, Mechanics and Thermodynamics and other relevant courses.

II. Humanities and Literacy Courses are all compulsory courses, including:

- English courses;

- P.E. courses;

- Ideological and political courses;

- Literature, history and philosophy elective courses.

III. Interdisciplinary Courses include core courses and elective courses:

- Core interdisciplinary courses: 7 compulsory courses;

- Elective interdisciplinary courses: consists of three categories with a total of 12 courses. Students may choose 5–6 courses to form a personalize study plan.

IV. Practice Courses include a series of courses such as Introduction to Engineering, Innovative Research Practice and Energy Experiment.

- These courses are designed to foster cross-disciplinary innovation skills by incorporating project-based learning focused on energy materials, energy utilization, and energy sustainability. The immersive curriculum develops students' problem-solving abilities, innovation mindset, and research skills, establishing a strong foundation for scientific inquiry.

V. Individualized Courses count for a total of 6 credits in any course offered by SJTU.
