1. About the Project
The Excellent Young Scientists Fund Program (Overseas) aims to attract and encourage overseas outstanding young scholars (including non-Chinese origin foreign talents) who have made significant achievements in the fields of natural sciences, engineering and technology to come to China. The program supports them in independently selecting research directions and conducting innovative researches. The goal is to promote the rapid development of young scientific and technological talents and to cultivate a group of outstanding academic leaders in the global science and technology community, thereby contributing to the creation of stronger scientific and technological China.
2. Application Requirements
(1)The applicants of the Excellent Young Scientists Fund Program (Overseas) need to fulfill the requirements as follows:
a) Comply with the laws and regulations of the People's Republic of China, possess good scientific ethics, and consciously practice the spirit of scientists in the new era;
b) Date of birth on or after January 1, 1985;
c) Hold a doctoral degree;
d) Research focus on natural sciences, engineering and technology;
e) After obtaining the doctoral degree and before April 15, 2025, the applicants should have obtained a formal teaching or research position in a renowned overseas university, scientific research institution or corporate R&D organization, and have a working experience of more than 36 consecutive months. For the applicants who have obtained their doctoral degree overseas and have outstanding performance, the work experience requirement can be appropriately relaxed. (not applicable to the applicants who have obtained their doctoral degree overseas through Sino-foreign joint educational programs);
For the applicants who hold a domestic remunerated position while working overseas, the years of service in the domestic remunerated position will not be counted as years of service overseas.
f) Have acquired achievements of scientific research, technical or other results recognized by peer experts, and possess the potential to become an academic leader or outstanding talent in the field;
g) Applicants who have not yet returned to work in China full-time, or who returned to work in China after January 1, 2024, must resign from overseas employment after being notified of the grant and return to China to work full-time for at least three years.
(2)Restrictive Requirements
Applicants shall implement the relevant requirements of national science and technology talent plans. Applicants can only undertake one national science and technology talent program at the same level, with no possibility to apply for the programs at higher levels.
3. Recruitment directions
Applicants should focusing on the two future themes - energy and health, we conduct research on disruptive technologies that do not set disciplinary boundaries, such as: super energy batteries, new photovoltaics, high-efficiency energy storage, extreme manufacturing, biomanufacturing, e-mobility, low carbon agriculture, organic photovoltaics, future displays, heart and brain health, sports health, nutritional health, full life cycle health, etc., especially on cross-cutting topics related to AI and large models.
We welcome outstanding young people in interdisciplinary fields such as materials, chemistry, physics, mechanics, energy, information, life and medicine.
4. Support Conditions
Salary: The College provides higher salary and better working environment than North American universities, to ensure that faculty members can concentrate on their research peacefully.
Development support: The Institute and the Research Center provide a full-range talent development support for young faculty.
Research Funding: Selected candidates for the Program will receive a 3-year, 1-3 million RMB state grant. In addition, the university and the institute will provide matching support.
Enrollment Quotas: Doctoral student quotas are guaranteed, with priority given to allocating master's students to young faculty members.
Living Support: Competitive housing subsidies are provided, and assistance is offered in resolving housing issues. During the transition period, fully furnished talent apartments are available for rent.
Other Support: Leveraging the resources from affiliated schools and hospitals, assistance is provided for children's school enrollment and health insurance.
5. About Us
The Global Institute of Future Technology (GIFT) at Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) is one of the first twelve Future Technology Institutes announced by the Ministry of Education.
The institute is pioneering a comprehensive reform to create an innovative education system that transcends the boundaries of traditional disciplines and institutions. By 2025, the Institute will build a top faculty team led by international masters, exceeding 100 members, and establish a new model for talent cultivation integrating industry and education. By 2030, the Institute will achieve significant progress in talent development and produced a series of major scientific research achievements. By 2035, the Institute will be continuously nurturing globally influential talents, producing high-quality disruptive technologies, and become a globally renowned Institute of Future Technology.
