On February 24, 2025, the inaugural meeting of the management committee of the Model Laboratory for Industry-Education Integration, jointly built by Shanghai Jiao Tong University and CATL, took place in both online and offline form in the conference room No. 200 of Global Institute of Future Technology (GIFT).
Qing Guo, the deputy director of the CATL Research Institute General Office, Shouxing Bo, the deputy director of the CATL Shanghai Research Institute, Tianshu Ge, the secretary of the Party Committee at the Global Institute of Future Technology at Shanghai Jiaotong University, along with Sun Jin, the executive dean, and vice deans Jingchuan Wang and Weiliang Xia, joined by relevant staff from various departments on both sides, were all present at the meeting. Sun Jin chaired the meeting.
The meeting systematically reviewed the special report on the progress of laboratory construction. Lu Haiying, Director of Base and Experiment Office of GIFT, provided an overview of the establishment of the Model Laboratory for Industry-Education Integration. He outlined the establishment background of the Model Laboratory of Industry-Education Integration, the construction goals, the cooperation models, the planning of the institutional framework, the construction content, as well as the construction of the new building of GIFT.
Xu Ran, Integrated Management Manager of CATL Future Energy Research Institute in Shanghai, focused on the progress of laboratory safety system construction and equipment platform construction.
The directors of the centers and heads of relevant departments of CATL met to discuss several important topics, including the laboratory construction plan, school-enterprise cooperation model and safety management. They shared their thoughts on several key areas, such as improving site facilities and enhancing the safety management system. Additionally, they emphasized the need for stronger collaboration and communication, cultural integration, effective display of results, and the exploration of new cooperation methods.
Guo Qing highlighted the importance of creating a dual-track system that combines “differentiated management” and “collaborative innovation.” He emphasized the need to recognize both the similarities and differences between the ways companies and schools are managed, aiming to develop a new model for school-enterprise collaboration. To enhance the efficiency of equipment sharing and the utilization of platforms, he suggested creating a visual data platform. Additionally, he proposed building a space for science popularization and demonstration, which would showcase the unique features of the laboratory.
Jin Sun emphasized the importance of standardized operations in laboratory management through the establishment of high standard systems. He outlined three key expectations for developing a model laboratory that integrates industry and education: first, to set up a top-notch demonstration laboratory that adheres to high standards and strict requirements; second, to foster mutual understanding and effective collaboration between both parties; and third, to achieve early outcomes that create a positive impact and develop a distinctive platform.
Tianshu Ge made the concluding remarks. She began by acknowledging the results of the preliminary construction of the laboratory and expressed her gratitude to the staff of both sides for their hard work. Tianshu emphasized that the Model Laboratory for Industry-Education Integration is a multidisciplinary cross-innovation platform that requires all members to collaborate and help each other. She also encouraged the directors of the centers to actively put forward their needs, highlighting the importance of working together to enhance the platform and transform the Model Laboratory into a world-class facility.
The meeting marked a new stage in deepening the cooperation between the two parties. Moving forward, SJTU and CATL will use the model laboratory as a connection point to enhance sharing of resource and outcomes. Together, they aim to create a benchmark for the deep integration of industry, academia and research, creating a top-notch platform to nurture innovation for the future!
