On 15 October, the World Forum for Student Innovation and Inauguration Ceremony of the World University Student Innovation Alliance were held at Shanghai Jiaotong University (SJTU). Among the attendees were Wu Yan, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Education, and Xie Dong, Vice Mayor of Shanghai. Additionally, the relevant representatives of the United Nations, representatives of the presidents of famous universities at home and abroad, along with 350 other invited guests were present at the event.
Ni Jun, Chief Manufacturing Officer of CATL, Dean of GIFT, and expert on the World Economic Forum Davos Future Manufacturing Committee, spoke as an expert representative. He elaborated on the connotative value of innovation and its direction for future development, focusing on the purpose, content, and methods of innovation. He pointed out that innovation is the key to driving human historical progress, as it has sustained the global population, extended human lifespan, and facilitated industrial revolutions. Currently, the world faces many significant challenges that call for unified solutions from the younger generation. These challenges include issues related to the health of our planet, human well-being, clean water, sustainable energy, and the promotion of world peace.
Looking ahead, universities and scholars worldwide need to continuously innovate paths of cooperation, emphasizing interdisciplinary collaboration, educational system reforms, integration of industry and academia, and international cooperation, particularly strengthening industry-academia-research cooperation to promote impactful innovations. GIFT is committed to cultivating technological innovation talents with multidisciplinary capabilities to address major breakthroughs in future technologies. The institute breaks traditional boundaries, integrates resources both inside and outside the campus, focuses on sustainable energy and health science and technology, and pays attention to the health of the Earth and humanity. The forum and the founding ceremony of the alliance are important components of the China International College Students' Innovation Competition, serving as crucial measures to improve the quality of talent cultivation.
