On 19th August, the 2nd anniversary celebration of Global Institute of Future Technology (hereafter,GIFT) at Shanghai Jiao Tong University (hereafter, SJTU) was successfully held in CATL. Wu Kai, Ouyang Chuying, Zhao Fenggang and other executives and department heads of CATL, Xu Xun and Wu Yanming, Vice Presidents of Zhejiang Transfar , Xi Lifeng, Vice President of SJTU, Ni Jun, Dean of GIFT, Jin Sun and Zhao Yixin, Vice Presidents of the Research Institute, Yang Ming, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Union College, as well as GIFT leadership team, representatives of teachers and students of The GIFT Future Scholar Program and the Walk Together Programme attended the conference. The conference was presided over by Yang Ming.
On behalf of the university, Xi Lifeng, Vice President of SJTU, affirmed the achievements of GIFT and expressed his appreciation for the establishment of a good ecology of symbiotic interaction and integration of production and education between GIFT and CATL. He pointed out that he hoped the two sides would take this opportunity to deepen the discussion around the construction of joint training bases and interdisciplinary research platforms. It is also hoped that GIFT will take the arrival of the first batch of students in September as a new starting point, grasp innovation as the soul of the nation and the theme of the times, build a reform demonstration area for future talent cultivation, an innovation curator for school-enterprise collaborative attack, and a cultural leading filed for international exchanges and co-operation, and climb up unremittingly to write a magnificent chapter for the country and the times.
Ni Jun, Dean of GIFT and Chief Manufacturing Officer of CATL, reported on the work progress of the second anniversary of the establishment of the institute. GIFT deeply implements the spirit of the 20th CPC National Congress, implements the work deployment of the Ministry of Education and Shanghai Municipality, and focuses on the goal of cultivating strategic, internationalised, innovative and leading talents, and focuses on the construction tasks of the Future Technology Institute in a focused, step-by-step, continuous and effective manner. Stage-by-stage progress has been made in talent cultivation, scientific research, integration of industry and education, social service and international exchange. He said that GIFT will grasp the development opportunities, anchor the development goals, accelerate the cultivation of strategic internationalised leading talents, and deliver a satisfactory answer of scientific and technological self-reliance and self-improvement.
Directors of Center for Advanced Energy System and Reliability, CAESR Future Photovoltaics Research Center, New Energy Equipment Intelligent Extreme Manufacturing Research Center and Future Battery Research Center reported the breakthroughs and innovative achievements made by each of them in their respective fields of cutting-edge technological research to the attending guests.
Ni Jun, Chief Manufacturing Officer of CATL, Wu Kai, CATL Chief Scientist, Ouyang Chuying, Co-President of CATL R&D System, Zhao Fenggang, Co-President of CATL R&D System, Ge Tianshu and Wang Jingchuan, Vice Deans of GIFT, and Li Mian and Xin Hongyi, Assistants to the Dean of GIFT, unveiled the plaque of the research centre.
Xi Lifeng and Ni Jun awarded dual-appointment certificates to Wu Kai, Ouyang Chuying and Zhao Fenggang.
On behalf of GIFT, Jin Sun and Zhao Yixin granted CATL with a social practice base and a base for party building “Walk Together Programme”, marking that the strategic cooperation between GIFT and CATL has been expanded to more dimensions of educating people. The establishment of the practice base and the joint programme will further promote the combination of science and education, and build a practical opportunity and innovation platform for students.
Wu Kai, the chief scientist of CATL, made a concluding speech on behalf of the company. He pointed out that through the efforts of both the school and the enterprise, the “GIFT model” of industry-education integration and collaborative innovation has been initially shaped, and the picture of the interactive development of the future talent and scientific research highland has already appeared. He hoped that GIFT would insist on talent as the centre and innovation as the power source, and root in the needs of the nation and the times while always looking at the world landscape. CATL will unswervingly deepen the co-operation with GIFT, join hands to lead the future of industry-education integration, and jointly contribute to the sustainable development of human society.
In the afternoon of the 19th, GIFT held the school-enterprise scientific research cooperation promotion meeting, joint training base construction seminar and so on respectively.
Vice Dean Ge Tianshu and Wang Jingchuan, as well as students of The GIFT Future Scholar Program and the Walk Together Program carried out talks and exchanges with the relevant person in charge of the Human Resources Department of CATL, industry mentors, and SJTU alumni in Ningde. The industry mentors gave advice and suggestions for the joint cultivation of GIFT talents with their personal experience.
Yang Ming reviewed the progress of scientific research cooperation between GIFT and CATL, and the representatives of each research centre and the relevant departments of CATL cooperation carried out in-depth exchanges around deepening the scientific research organisation and development model, and advancing the co-construction of cross-innovation platforms.
In Ningde, GIFT also held an exhibition on the achievements of the 2nd anniversary of the founding of the institute, and visited the alumni enterprise CIML.
