发布时间:2024-10-18

Recently, the 2024 China International College Students' Innovation Competition finals successfully concluded at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. The team led by Professor Xie Yujun from GIFT won the National Gold Award in the Industry Track with their project, The World's First Solution for Lifecycle Failure Analysis of Micro-Level Lithium Batteries. At the same time, another team guided by Professor Xie Yujun received the Bronze Award in the International Track for their project, FALCON - Failure Analysis of Lithium Cells On Nanoscale. Additionally, the project Digital Twin-Driven Optimization System for Milling Process of Complex Thin-Walled Parts led by graduate students Leng Yan and Fan Linxuan from GIFT, as well as the project Highly Agile Digital Photoelectric Hydrophone Solution led by undergraduate students Shi Hanmo and Liu Liying, also won the National Gold Awards in the Industry Track.

In this year's CICSIC, teams from GIFT won three national gold awards in the industrial track and one bronze award in the international track, which created the best record of GIFT in this competition.

The China International College Students' Innovation Competition (2024) is jointly organised by the Ministry of Education, relevant ministries and commissions and the Shanghai Municipal People's Government, and co-hosted by SJTU and the People's Government of Minhang District. The competition includes the main track of Higher Education, the “Youth Patriotic Dream Building Journey” track, the Vocational Education track, the Industry Proposition track, the Emerging Talent track, and the International track. This year, 5,140,000 projects from 5,406 schools in 153 countries and regions at home and abroad and 20,836,000 people have registered for the competition, among which 1,993 schools, 12,063 projects and 39,380 people have registered for the competition from 149 countries and regions abroad.

Project: the World's First Micro-level Lithium Battery Whole Life Cycle Failure Analysis Solution

For the failure analysis of lithium batteries throughout their life cycle, the “Yu An Technology” team has proposed the world's first solution for failure analysis of lithium batteries at the microscopic level.

The solution breaks through the limitations of traditional methods and achieves technological breakthroughs such as low-cost non-destructive sample preparation, high-resolution non-destructive microscopic characterisation, and rapid data acquisition and processing. The project has independent intellectual property rights, and has obtained a number of patents and published a number of international top papers, and is expected to become a technical benchmark in the field of failure analysis in the lithium battery industry, and promote the technological innovation and development of the industry.

He Xiaoya is currently the organising committee member of the second student branch of the Party Committee of Union College. She has won many honors such as Outstanding Graduate Student, First Class Scholarship at school level, Three Good Students and Advanced Individual in Social Practice.

Personal Reflections:

It is a great honour to win in CICSIC. This honour is not only a recognition of our team's efforts, but also the greatest encouragement to us along the way. Thinking back to the countless days and nights of discussions, failures and do-overs, what we feel is the team spirit and unremitting persistence. Thanks to the support and encouragement of our mentor, and thanks to the hard work and trust of every teammate, we are well aware that the road to innovation is full of challenges, but it is these challenges that make us continue to grow. In the future, we will continue to uphold the original intention, bravely pursue excellence, and contribute more power to the society and the progress of science and technology.

Project Member

Mao Zian

As a student in the GIFT Future Scholar Program in the second phase, he has published two articles in top journals in the field of measurement, and has been awarded the champion of the 28th SJTU Joint Cup Chinese Debate Competition, and the best debater of the 2021 SJTU Chinese Debate Competition and other honours.

Personal Reflections:

It is an honour to win the gold medal in the CICSIC! I would like to thank GIFT for building a valuable platform for us, the respected teachers for their careful training and guidance to our team members, and every teammate for their dedication and hard work. I’d like to give special thanks to GIFT Future Scholars Programme, which brings me quality research resources, cutting-edge academic vision, rigorous scientific research atmosphere and the patience and professional guidance of the tutors, so that I can continue to explore and grow on the road of innovation, and finally harvested this honour. I hope that in the future, more students can join the family of future scholars, and work hard to become international science and technology leaders!

Mentor

Xie Yujun

Associate Professor of GIFT at SJTU, doctoral tutor, National Young Talent. Xie has presided over the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and projects of CATL, China Aerospace Science and Technology Group and China National Nuclear Corporation key R & D. He graduated from Yale University with a Ph.D., and then worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of California, Berkeley and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. So far, he has published more than 50 articles in SCI journals such as Nature Communications, Science Advances, etc., and has been granted 3 international patents, with a total of more than 3,000 citations. He has received the Outstanding Young Scientist Award for Amorphous Alloys from the Chinese Materials Congress, the Gold Medal for Graduate Students from the American Society for Materials Research, the National Outstanding Privately Financed International Students Award from the China Scholarship Council (CSC), the Forbes 100 Young Chinese Returnees, and the Ludo Frevel Prize for Crystallography from the International Centre for Powder Diffraction Data (ICPDD).

Personal Reflections:

This award in the industry track was made possible by the support of the in-depth industry-education integration model between GIFT, CATL Future Energy Research Institute and 21c Innovation Lab. This co-operation provides us with valuable practical opportunities so that students can solve real problems in real industrial environment and promote the application and transformation of research results. This award is a strong verification of the innovation path of “real industrial problems to cutting-edge solutions”, which fully demonstrates the great potential of university-enterprise cooperation in promoting the research and practical application of cutting-edge technology.

GIFT’s outstanding performance in CICSIC fully demonstrates the effectiveness of the school-enterprise co-operation mode of in-depth integration. By integrating the resources of the school and forming interdisciplinary cross-research teams, GIFT actively explores the collaborative education mechanism. Guided by the needs of the enterprises, the participating teams have carried out in-depth research and development of the projects, successfully put forward innovative solutions with practical application value, and demonstrated the breakthrough technological application results of the close integration of scientific research and industry.
