Recently, the General Office of the Ministry of Education issued a notice officially announcing the list of the first batch of future technology institutes. Shanghai Jiaotong University (hereafter SJTU) is listed among them, becoming one of the first 12 future technology institutes construction universities in China.
The notice of the Ministry of Education requires the first batch of universities to build future technology institutes to clarify the construction objectives, carry out diversified exploration, strengthen quality assurance, and focus on cultivating leading talents with foresight and technological innovation. This will promote the transformation and upgrading from “Made in China” to “Created in China”, lay the foundation for building a strong higher education country, serving high-quality development and realising the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
SJTU will rely on UM-SJTU Joint Institute's existing foundation and practical experience in talent cultivation, integrate the strengths of the university's related sciences, engineering and medicine, and at the same time, make use of the strengths of related enterprises and the community to create a highly internationalised future technology institute with cross-disciplinary integration. The Future Technology Institute of SJTU will focus on the two major fields of environmentenergy and healthcare, aiming at cutting-edge science, developing emerging interdisciplinary disciplines, fostering original scientific research results, and cultivating future scientific and technological innovation leaders.
