On February 16, Wu Yan, Member of the Party Group and Vice Minister of the Ministry of Education, visited Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) and specifically listened to a report on the construction progress of the Global Institute of Future Technology (GIFT) at SJTU.
Guo Peng, Director of Finance Department of the Ministry of Education; Lei Chaozi, Director of Science and Technology and Informatization Department of the Ministry of Education; Fan Wei, Director of Education Quality Evaluation Centre of the Ministry of Education and other leaders of relevant departments and bureaus; Sun Zhenrong, Deputy Director of the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Education; Yang Zhenbin, Secretary of the Party Committee of SJTU; Lin Zhongqin, President of SJTU; Ding Kui Ling, Executive VicePresident of SJTU; Gu Feng, Executive ViceSecretary of SJTU; Zhang Ansheng, Xu Xue Min, Zhu Xinyuan, Vice Presidents of SJTU; Wu Jingyi, Deputy Dean of Academic Affairs; and Ni Jun, Dean of GIFT, participated in the symposium.
Ni Jun made a presentation on the construction progress of the institute. He firstly expressed his gratitute on behalf of GIFT for the help and guidance from the Ministry of Education and the strong support given by the school leaders to the construction and development of GIFT. Ni Jun pointed out that GIFTstrictly follows the Guidelines for the Construction of Future Technology Institutes (Trial) issued by the Ministry of Education, and after more than two years of construction and exploration, it has made initial progress in clarifying the portrait of future science and technology leaders, exploring the path of innovative talent cultivation, strengthening organized scientific research, and creating a platform for the integration of industry and education and cultivation of people, and so on. Facing the future, GIFT will deeply implement the strategy for developing the country through science and education, the strategy for strengthening the country through talent cultivation, and the strategy for innovation-driven development, and solidly push forward the work in talent cultivation, scientific research, collaborative innovation and international collaboration, so as to be the main force in the cultivation of strategic and internationalized scientific and technological pioneers.
After listening to the report, Wu Yan spoke very highly of the strategy and pattern of GIFT at SJTU and the implementation of the construction of GIFT. He emphasized that the report of the 20thParty Congress highlighted the construction of a strong education, science and technology, and human resources in a prominent position, of which education is the cornerstone for the prosperity of science and technology and the strength of the country. He encouraged GIFT to cultivate talents of future technology in an original way, build it into a peak of talents and a peak of science and technology, truly lead the future development, and providea strong support for realizing the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
