On the morning of May 5, the opening ceremony of the transitional space of Global Institute of Future Technology (GIFT) was held in the east wing of Yue-Kong Pao Library. Jiang Xinghao, assistant to the president of SJTU; Li Xinwan, director of the Yue-Kong Pao Library; Ni Jun, Dean of GIFT; Yang Ming, secretary of the Party committee of the Union College; other leaders and all the faculty and staff of GIFT attended the ceremony. The ceremony was hosted by Yang Yanchun, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Union College.
On behalf of the university, Jiang Xinghao expressed warm congratulations to GIFT for its official move into the transitional space. He pointed out that GIFT, as a newly established engineering institute in the university, represents the emerging force of the university's discipline construction and scientific and technological innovation, and shows vigorous development momentum and potential. The opening of transitional space symbolizes a new starting point for the development of the institute, and it is hoped thatGIFT will become a teaching and research highland that can truly represent and lead the future.
Ni Jun firstly thanked the university for its continuous support for the construction and development of GIFT. Nurturing people is the starting point and footing point of all the work of GIFT. It will make full use of all aspects of the advantages of the transitional space, uphold the student-centered concept for schooling, focus on the fundamental goal of cultivating strategic international science and technology leaders, and create a warm and comfortable working and learning atmosphere for teachers and students. It is hoped that all of us will devote ourselves to the coming key taskson student enrollment and teaching, talent recruitment and cultivation with endless energy, while seizing the opportunities to promote development and makingactive and concerted efforts to advance the institute to a higher level.
Li Xinwan said in his speech, Yue-Kong Pao Library, as a GIFT’s “neighbor”, is not only spatially close to GIFT, but need closer collaboration with GIFT. The library will give full play to its rich collection of resources and high-level information and knowledge service advantages, and provide strong support for the GIFT’s scientific and technological innovation and talent cultivation.
Yang Ming pointed out that the brand-new schooling space provides a broader stage for GIFT. It is also expected that under the leadership of the university,the active promotion of all parties, and the contribution and participation of all employees, the new building of GIFT would be completed as soon as possible, and GIFT will eventually move towards its own brilliant future realm.
Finally, Jiang Xinghao, Ni Jun, Yang Ming and Li Xinwan unveiled the name wall of GIFT together, with all the faculty and staff of GIFT witnessing it together.
“Be profound, broad and inclusive and advance with the times!” GIFT values interdisciplinarity while encouraging delving deep into specific fields. Standing at a new historical starting point, GIFT will keep a firm hold on the world science and technology and the future industrial development trend, write the answer sheet of the era of science and technology self-reliance and self-improvement, live up to the mission, step into the future, embrace the future, and create the future.
