讲座摘要:
The great abundance of renewable electricity has opened a great opportunity for developing electrochemical energy conversion methods to transform energy-intensive processes from conventional thermal/mechanical pathways to electrochemical pathways. Despite the tremendous research efforts in this field, there is still a large knowledge gap between fundamental research down to single-molecule level and applied research up to device and system level where the complexity increases by orders of magnitude. Therefore, a unified research program that bridges the two extremes of electrochemistry research is urgently needed to produce a comprehensive theory of how the chemical, electronic and physical properties of individual entities affect their collective function.
In this talk, I will first present two works: 1) design principles and developments of integrated solar flow batteries; 2) single-molecule reaction mapping of electrocatalytic surface Pd-H intermediates. These two works demonstrate the research approaches that focus on practical and fundamental aspects of electrochemical energy conversion processes, respectively. Then I will briefly discuss a future research framework that I envision to bridge the two extremes of electrochemistry research.
主讲人简介:
Wenjie Li received his B.S. from Fudan University in 2014 and Ph.D. from University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2019 with Prof. Song Jin. He was a postdoctoral research associate at Cornell University under the direction of Prof. Peng Chen from 2020 to 2023. Integrating his experience in both macroscopic electrochemical devices and microscopic single-entity characterization, Li seeks to develop novel strategies and mechanistic understandings of energy conversion and storage applications. He has 22 peer-reviewed publications on high-impact journals, including first-author papers in Nature Materials, Chem, Angewandte Chemie, etc., and has been awarded with the Materials Research Society Graduate Student Silver Award and the Chinese Government Award for Outstanding Self-financed Students Abroad.
